Meg Hutchinson
Sunday, May 11, 2008
6pm - Doors Open 5pm
Tickets $15

Quote about her music:
“In a brooding sea of inscrutable urban songwriters, her whispery, knowable voice feels like it’s sharing her secrets with us. Set to elegant, free-floating melodies that feel both modern and rooted, her lyrics are always seeking, if not actually finding, hope at the end of life’s dark tunnels” -- The Boston Globe

Biography:
We’ve heard it before. Small town kid with guitar goes to the city with no cash and no job to follow a dream she’s had since she was eight. She tracks down an established producer whose business card she’s been carrying around for six years, plays him a few songs and he agrees to make a record. Meg Hutchinson makes the old story new again. Three years ago Hutchinson was picking lettuce on a vegetable farm in upstate New York and living above a chicken coop. She sent a demo to the Kerrville Folk Festival, and to her surprise she was selected for their New Artist showcase. She packed up and drove to Texas, where she promptly won their prestigious New Folk Award for best new artist. She proceeded to win awards at the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest and Telluride Troubadour Songwriter’s Showcase in Colorado, as well as the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at Merlefest in North Carolina. In the same year she was selected to perform at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in New York, The Wildflower Folk Festival in Texas and was nominated for a Boston Music Award.
